The Institute of Nephrology of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine was established in 2001 as the main institution on problems of nephrology and dialysis in the state of Ukraine.

It was in our Institute that that we began to apply the method of peritoneal dialysis for the treatment of patients with cardiac decompensation and decompensated cirrhosis and obtained good results. We began to use intraocular balloon contrapulsion for the patients with chronic kidney disease at stage 5 who require coronary artery bypass surgery due to coronary heart disease. This approach improves treatment outcomes and reduces the number of deaths. Based on number of long-term microbiological and immunological researches, we have established the conceptual model of urinary system infections relapse.
