4worldlovers: Today, when fierce fighting is going on in the suburbs of the Ukrainian capital, the ancient city of Kyiv, when the Russian army bombs Ukrainian cities and villages, we, scientists of the Modern Art Research Institute of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, call on the world community not to be indifferent to the fate of our country.

Today, Ukraine is not only defending its right to independence from Russia’s imperial claims but also — at the cost of the lives of its heroic defenders — is shielding the entire civilised world from the threat to its existence.

At the stake of Russia’s geopolitical ambitions is the destruction not only of Ukraine and its cultural traditions but to destruction of the world’s cultural heritage.

Despite the position of silence and “neutrality”, which, with rare exceptions, was chosen by the intelligentsia of the country-aggressor, the responsibility for the bloodshed in Ukraine lies on its shoulders.

As Russian culture, along with humanistic ideals, has portrayed and continues to portray imperialist encroachments under the pretences of the “Russian world”, we call on the world cultural community to end all forms of cooperation with every Russian science, culture and art institutions.
